Horse Care & Knowledge Module

Can be delivered by: Group Coach or above, Regional Vet, Regional Equine Advisor

Learning Outcomes: By the end of this training module a coach should be confident to manage a small group of RDA horses.

  • The coach knows how to check for general health
  • The coach knows the importance of feeding, dentistry and other equine health checks
  • The coach is confident to travel and deal with the equine outside of its home environment
  • The coach has an understanding of basic equine conformation & condition scoring
  • The coach knows the importance of equine fitness
  • The coach has knowledge of different injuries, ailments and knows when to call a vet
  • The coach knows how to look after an equine that is either grass or stable kept (Group specific)
  • The coach has an understanding of different rugs and why we rug

Format:
Face to face can be delivered as one block of training covering the full syllabus and learning outcomes or the syllabus broken down into shorter sessions, tied in and relevant to the group activity. Content can be specific to the group and the horse care and management at that group.

Can also be delivered online (i.e. via Zoom) split into linked sessions covering the full syllabus and learning outcome.
