Job Vacancy – Head Riding Coach at Woodbridge & District

Formed in 1987, the Woodbridge and District Group operates from a purpose built centre, constructed in 2017 at their new home in Clopton, Suffolk. An opportunity to join our small and dedicated team, this new post will take a leading role in organising and coaching sessions for our riding participants and mentoring our volunteer coaches.  The role will also include work on the yard looking after our 12 horses.

Permanent, full-time: 35 hours a week (Tuesday to Saturday)

Salary: £18,000 to £20,000 dependent on experience.

Leave: 28 days

Key responsibilities:

  • Liaising with the Centre Manager to agree appropriate equines and volunteers for riding sessions, ensuring the safety of participants, volunteers and equines.
  • Developing lesson plans and coaching riding sessions
  • Reporting any issues with horses to the Centre Manager as soon as possible.
  • Evaluating the safety and suitability of tack and equipment prior to each session.
  • Co-ordinating / providing after-session horse and tack care.
  • Instructing participants on horse care and stable management. Giving practical demonstrations as required.
  • Assessment of new horses and riders.
  • Management of volunteers supporting riding sessions
  • Maintaining appropriate records
  • Regular afternoon stable/yard work and ad-hoc cover for other equine staff e.g., during holidays or sick leave.

The Unicorn Centre in Middlesbrough opened in 1998 as a purpose built riding Centre and member group of the Riding for the Disabled Association, with aims to enrich the lives and experiences for disabled children and adults.

This new post will take a leadership role and join a small and committed team.

You will find new opportunities to grow the Centre’s work and manage the infrastructure which underpins our activities. Working closely with Trustees, the new Equine Operations Manager and other staff and volunteers, you will help shape the future of the Centre and ensure its continuing success.

You will

  • Identify new opportunities for the Centre
  • Lead on the Centre’s fundraising and grant application activities
  • Lead on the Marketing, Communications and Public Relations of the Centre
  • Lead on the Centre’s work to promote Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity
  • Lead on the Centre’s volunteer programme
  • Manage the Centre’s finances.
  • Manage staffing procedures

  • Lead on Health and Safety matters
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures that support the Centre’s operation

This new post will take a leadership role for equine operations joining a small and committed team.

You will focus on leading and working with the existing Equine Team to be able to meet the needs of the Centre’s activities and the delivery of coaching and other activities to participants. Working closely with yard staff, coaches, volunteers, the new Business and Development Manager and Trustees, you will help shape the future of the Centre and ensure its continuing success.

You will

  • Lead on all matters relating to the Equine Team
  • Monitor the composition of the Equine Team
  • Lead on the management and the operation of the Yard
  • Lead on the delivery of coaching
  • Lead on special events involving the Equine Team
  • Lead on the provision of Equine Therapies
  • Support participants and volunteers
  • Lead on Safeguarding
