Tracking The Results of RDA Therapy

  • 80% of riders experience physical improvement in 12 weeks or less
  • 90% of riders demonstrated improved confidence
  • 70% of riders demonstrated an improvement in their riding skills

Therapy at RDA includes all the benefits that result from participation in our activities which boost your physical and mental wellbeing.

You may have been referred to RDA by you doctor or physiotherapist, because the benefits of RDA activities are so wide ranging.

The key theraputic factor in RDA is the movement of the horse. Riding provides physiotherapy on the move; the warmth and three dimensional movement of the horse is transmitted through the body of the rider helping you to relax, and strengthen your core muscles enabling you to become stronger and more supple.  Many riders also find that riding helps improve their posture, balance and coordination.

RDA Participant Lauren explains “horse riding is a form of physical exercise which I really enjoy – it doesn’t feel like exercise at all because I do it to have fun!” or as another rider put it “Who wants to sit on bouncy balls in a physiotherapy room, when you can sit on a horse and achieve the same things without realising it”

RDA research shows that our riders experience significant positive change in their capacities for communication, confidence, enjoyment, relating, physical improvement and learning horsemanship.

Adults and children can not only benefit from therapeutic riding with RDA; some centres also provide carriage driving and vaulting, which is gymnastics on horseback, and hippotherapy, when a horse is used to provide physiotherapy.

Recent research showed that 80% of schoolchildren who rode with RDA for a term experienced physical improvement. The greatest improvements were identified in confidence and enjoyment with 90% of riders demonstrating positive change in these areas. 82% of riders demonstrated improved communication and 70% improved their ability to build relationships.
